There are over 11,000 printed books in the Library, covering curriculum subject areas, as well as study skills, careers, fiction and international readers (graded English readers for international students). We also have approx 3,000 ebooks.

Books are arranged by class number, e.g. 371.3. This is the number on the spine of the book. Books at the same number will be on the same subject. The Library catalogue will show you which books the Library has and where they are shelved. 


We have over 3,000 e-books, available via 2 online services called Ebrary and Dawsonera. Further information on these services is available on the E-library page.

The Library holds over 1000 mainly curriculum-related DVDs, including off-air recordings and a number of feature films.  Curriculum-related DVDs are shelved together with books on the same subject, films are shelved together at the beginning of the sequence.

The Library catalogue will show you which DVDs the Library has and where they are shelved. 


Over 64 printed journals and newspaper titles are taken. Most journals are kept for 2 years. We also have many electronic journals through an online service called InfoTrac.

Some back issues are kept in departments.


The Library takes the following newspapers:

 The Guardian
 The Times

 The Surrey Advertiser

Newspapers are kept for up to 2 weeks. Several of them (and others) are available online via General Onefile.

Online resources

The Library website contains links to a range of online resources including: ebooks, subscription e-resources and links to selected websites.



The Learning Resource Centre has 30 PCs and 15 laptops with MS Office and Internet access. In addition there are 6 PCs in the HE Room.  A black and white / colour printer is available. Please ask at the desk to access free wifi.

Info Zone

The Library staff have written a range of guides to help users: on resources for specific subjects, electronic resources, referencing etc. Printed guides are available on stands in the Hub, online versions via the Subject Guides and i-Skills areas of the Library website.


A number of stationery items can be purchased at the Lending Desk, including polypockets and pens. Click here for price list. We also have items such as hole punches and staplers available for use.
